B-1 Visa
(Non-immigrant visa for business travelers)
This category of non-immigrant visa applies to business
travelers who engage in business activities other than the actual performance of
labor
B-1 Visa Details:
Business visas are ideal for business executives, service
engineers,
speakers/lecturers, and researchers or for people who engage in
activities such as selling, voluntary service program and conference. Some
instances of the acceptable business activities under B1 status include
commercial transactions; meetings and consultations with business associates;
litigations; professional or business conventions, conferences or seminars; and
researches.
B-1 visas are normally issued for a period of up to six months. Extension is
allowed for up to additional six months. The dependents (spouse and children) of
B1 visa holders are not eligible to obtain the dependent visa, but may be able

In order to qualify for B1 visa, the applicant must:
- prove that the intention of the trip is to enter the U.S. for business;
- prove that he/she remains in the U.S. only for a specific, limited period;
- demonstrate that he/she enters solely for legitimate business purposes;
- provide the evidence of financial ability to cover expenses in the United
States;
- demonstrate that he/she is receiving no pay or remuneration from a U.S.
source;
- submit the proof of strong social and economic ties abroad; and
- prove that he/she has a residence outside the U.S. and has compelling
ties with the home country.
Business visa processing time may varies from one
U.S. embassy to other. Some times, to qualify for B1 visa, the applicants have to attend
a personal interview at the US consulate office. Visit

Benefits:
In addition to business activities such as attending business meetings, the B-1
visa holder is entitled to use the visa for short-term training or a company
course offered by the sponsoring company.
Limitations of B1
Visitor/Traveler Visa:
On B-1 visa, the applicant
- is not permitted to study in the U.S. (If the applicant wish to enroll in
a course of study then he/she must either obtain an F-1
or M-1 nonimmigrant
visa from a consular officer)
- is not allowed to work in the U.S.
- cannot convert B-1 status to H-1 status, while he/she is in USA.
B1 Business Visitor Visa Requirements:
- proof of residence;
- a valid passport or other valid travel documents;
- two photographs (50x50 mm) for each applicant;
- completed and signed non-immigrant visa application;
- evidence of proposed business activities in the U.S. such as letter from
the employer, if attending a business meet;
- proof of relationship with the family; and
- evidence of current employment in the home country.
In addition to the DS-156, all male non-immigrant visa applicants aged between
16 and 45 must file the Supplement Visa Application form (DS-157).
